Phone of the Day: Nortel T7208 Digital Telephone at a Kroger Supermarket in Ottawa, IL

Today my fiancé and I went to Starved Rock State Park near Ottawa, IL and we stopped at Kroger to pick up items for a picnic lunch.  Kroger has thousands of these Nortel phones installed throughout their chain.  Overhead paging is frequent in the store, by utilizing the Nortel phones.  This phone was spotted at the self checkout control center.

This particular Kroger is their late 1970s styled Greenhouse store layout with high  drop ceilings, big round air diffusers, exposed lamp strip fluorescent lights and curved corners on all of the branding walls.  The Greenhouse stores were named this because they had an angled huge glass ceiling above the entry area.  This locations Greenhouse has since been covered up with a conventional Kroger gable entry.

Kroger has been all over the board with phone systems throughout the years, from Comdial Executech phones (late 1990s) in the Michigan stores to Toshiba Strata sets in the Indianapolis stores  (early 2000s).  Their Fred Meyer stores on the West Coast, employ the early ROLM digital telephones such as the 120 sets.  And their newly acquired Roundys stores are a huge mixed bag with mainly Toshiba, Nitsuko and Nortel.  Proprietary Kroger Branded stores are Nortel.
