Phone of the Day: ROLMphone 240 Digital Telephone at Bloomingdales Home Store Chicago, IL

Introduced in 1983, these original digital Rolmphones are still chugging away at this Bloomingdales in Chicago. It’s hard to believe that a 34 year old telephone design still looks fairly modern today.

During the late 1980s these ROLMphones were considered one of the most advanced and luxurious executive phones (along with the ATT 7400 series) on the market until the release of the Northern Telecom Meridian Modular sets in 1989.

The two things I think of when I see these phones? The awesome low pitched warble ring tone and the clunky hang up noise when the handset is returned to the cradle.

I believe Siemens still supports these phones in one form or another.
