Today’s phone comes from my trusty, reliable and friendly mechanics in Evanston, IL: Charlie, Wally, Kent, and Bob that comprise the Auto Doctor in Evanston, IL. They specialize in all vehicles and take care of my 2000 BMW 5 series with the utmost care and honesty. I love visiting them and bringing them a case of beer at the end of the day and talking car jokes, watching crash videos on you tube, and just talking garage talk. Their building used to consist of one little sign that said “Auto Doctor and a Red Cross.” They have since updated to a few big Napa signs as well. It’s a great place to visit….not only do customers stop by, but also the local neighbors and we sit with the garage door open in warm weather and have great conversations.
Their garage consists of a NEC DS1000 phone system with the 80573 digital sets in the office, back areas and garage. It’s a very reliable system and serves them well with analog lines and built in Caller ID. Here is a pic of one of the phones in the office. As you can see, they programmed autodials for all of the autoparts supplier on the programmable buttons. These phones are used on the NEC DS2000 and NEC DS1000 systems. They are no longer manufactured new and customers are advised to update to the NEC DSX platform.
