As seen at Mariano’s Fresh Market in Ravenswood Chicago on Thursday April 17th, 2014, is a Toshiba Digital DKT3220-S phone. This is the non display version and it is used at the checkouts at the new Mariano’s stores. The rest of the store uses the Toshiba DKT3220-SD Display Telephones.
The Dominick’s stores that were taken over by Mariano’s use the existing Nortel BCM systems.
This is a rather simple phone, but don’t let it fool you. It’s a solid robust phone a solid failsafe phone system. Toshiba has been around for quite some time now in the shadows of Nortel, Shortel and Cisco, but they have always provided a very reliable solid good looking product.
I took some of the features of the phones below from the internet:
- 20 flexible buttons with LEDs for line appearances or feature programming
- Fixed feature buttons include message, microphone, speaker, speed dial, redial, conference/transfer, hold, and volume up/down
- Full duplex speakerphone for hands free operation
- The Toshiba DKT3220-S is compatible with Toshiba Strata CTX/CIX systems
I particularly appreciate the Call Release button. This is very useful for paging, so you don’t get the all too familiar Toshiba vacuum sounding hang up noise over the store speakers.
I still can’t believe there are some grocery retailers out there like Marsh in Indianapolis and believe it or not some sisters stores to Mariano’s in the Roundy’s chain that still use Aiphone Intercoms separate from their store’s phone systems. These phone systems are so affordable and easy to install, I don’t know why you would ever hold onto old intercom technology!
