Phone of the Day: Avaya 1408/1608 Telephone at Chicago Union Station
Today’s phone comes to you from the Great Hall in Chicago’s Union Station.  I can’t tell if this is a digital or IP telephone so it could either be the 1408 digital or the 1608 IP set. It appears Amtrak staff members unplug the handset when the kiosk is not staffed.   These phones must ...

Phone of the Day: 2554 Wall Telephone at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago, IL
This large hospital is run by an Alcaltel Lucent PBX, one of the very few PBXs I’ve seen of this brand in Chicago.  This lobby phone was on the wall and I snapped a photo of if.  Most phones in the hospital are digital or IP based.

Phone of the Day: Cisco 7911 IP Telephone at Martin's Super Markets in Elkhart, IN
The other guy on two guys and their phones, my friend Justin, spotted this phone at small chain grocery store named Martin’s Supermakrets.  Martin’s stores are located in north central Indiana and southwest Michigan.  It appears this chain is a Cisco shop. The 7911 is a small entry level phone that provides full IP telephony ...

Phone of the Day: Cisco 8841 IP Telephone at Whole Foods Market in Wheaton, IL
Whole Foods Market phone system installations were originally a mish-mosh of different phone systems including Panasonic Digital and most recently Toshiba DK Strata/CIX. A few years ago they went all Cisco with 7900 series sets appearing in their stores.  Even though Cisco has long considered the 7900 series sets reliable and sturdy, they finally pulled ...

Phone of the Day: Nortel 1140E IP Phone with a Parked Call and an Avaya 2526T POE Switch
I powered up a POE switch I bought for a friend of mine, for whom I installed an Emetrotel UCx in his brewery.  This POE switch will go into an additional building to control remote Nortel 1140E telephones, hosted back at the main building a mile away. The UCx is awesome if you like being ...

Phone of the Day: Avaya Lucent Partner 18 Digital  Telephone at Eddie Bauer Outlet Michigan City, IN
The first time I saw these second generation “AT&T Lucent Avaya” Partner phones was in 1996 when Eddie Bauer first opened a flagship on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.  I thought these phones looked quite futuristic at the time and didn’t even know they were a AT&T Lucent product until I started seeing them pop up at ...

Phone of the Day: Nortel M2616 Digital Telephone at Sysco Food Service in Seattle
It appears Nortel Meridian 1 telephones are alive and well at Sysco Offices, not to be confused with Cisco! Justin, my blog partner on this site, sent me this photo from Seattle today. The M2616 was the 1990s equilavent to the now ever so present Cisco 7900 series IP phones seen everywhere today.  The M2616 ...

Phone of the Day: Panasonic KX-TS105B Analog Telephone at The Vitamin Shoppe Chicago, IL
My fiancé and I stopped at a vitamin store in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago and I noticed this plain standard line analog telephone at the main checkout of this vitamin store.   Seeing they are a large chain, I am surprised to see they haven’t dropped the one analog line per location setup ...

Phone of the Day: Nortel T7100 Digital Telephone at Jewel-Osco Chicago Old Irving Neighborhood

Phone of the Day: Nortel T7100 Digital Telephone at Jewel-Osco Chicago Old Irving Neighborhood
I spotted this single line digital Nortel telephone meant for use on a Norstar and BCM telephone system, on the column of a Chicago staple grocery store, Jewel Osco.  This phone is right out on the sales floor. Jewel has since switched to Vertical brand systems for new stores, but the legacy Nortel systems are ...
